Window Finishing Instructions
If you prefer to finish your new windows yourself and select either a primed or basecoat stain finish, you should be aware that Jeld-wen recommends you apply further coats of undercoat and top coat immediately after delivery. Care must be taken not to paint over any form of weather-stripping as this will affect the performance. Any surfaces that require cutting or trimming should have a preservative coating applied and then re-painted – especially ends with exposed grains.
Regular maintenance of your windows will ensure their long-term performance. At least twice a year the windows should be inspected for any damage caused by the weather or in the main window cleaners with ladders. This damage should be dealt with quickly by sanding down the top coat and apply coats of primer and top coat to ensure protection from moisture. Regular cleaning with a mild detergent and soft cloth will also help maintain the windows. Please ensure you check for any blocked drainage holes or blocked channels – use a pipe cleaner or a soft flexible brush to remove any objects.
